Join a Jazz Night School small ensemble, get experience playing with others, and make progress!

Goals of Small Ensembles
Improve every player's skills, and have fun.

• Small Ensembles - Level One
• Small Ensembles - Level Two

• Small jazz ensembles offer playing opportunities with direction and guidance for both Level One and Level Two students.
• Sizes of ensembles and instrumentation range from trios to septets based on enrollment.
• Music is selected from classic jazz compositions and recordings.
• Ensembles meet 1.5 hours a week for eight weeks.
• Each ensemble participates in a final performance.

Level One is for students at varying degrees of beginning jazz performance skills. Students work on music and exercises that develop basics of playing jazz and playing jazz in small ensembles.

Level Two is for students with intermediate jazz performance skills. Music selection is more advanced, based on students' specific abilities, interests and needs.

Benefits
Participating in a small ensemble is a great experience for developing musicianship skills of playing in time, using dynamics, listening and interacting, all while working on feel, soloing and accompanying.

Playing jazz in small ensembles also develops confidence, collaboration, spontaneity, anticipation, empathy, creativity, working within structure, leading, following, focusing, quick thinking, memorization, pattern recognition...
