Jazz Night School

Jazz Night School offers year-round ensembles and instruction for aspiring jazz musicians—instrumentalists and vocalists—of all ages.

Beginning and intermediate level music studies and playing opportunities that build solid performance skills and knowledge—excellent complements to private instrument instruction, or great stand-alone studies.

Jazz Alley "2 for 1"—Most Wed 7:30 & Thu 10pm shows!

Empower students and focus on learning. We combine a structure of college level methods with flexibility for individuals and their needs—and everyone's effort is valued.

Interested? Come visit a class! New students are always welcome to visit classes.

Online learning tools provide enrolled students audio exercises, recommended listening and viewing, and more.

Join a Small Ensemble and have fun!

Located in Southeast Seattle near Columbia City, Jazz Night School is held in a comfortable home setting with three rooms for ensembles/classes, each equipped with acoustic piano, drum set and small amp. Seven miles from downtown and simple access from I5 either direction. Instructors are respectful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and model musicians.

Director Erik Hanson studied jazz piano, has a Bachelor of Music degree in jazz composition and arranging from Berklee College of Music (1984), has been a big band and small ensemble composer, arranger and leader, recording industry arranger and producer, and private music educator.
